Founder David C. Hoffman has a Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, several years of postdoctoral research experience, and a law degree from Cornell Law School. He is admitted to the California State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar (inactive), the Massachusetts State Bar (inactive), and is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
His legal experience includes: (1) patent drafting and prosecution in the US and key commercial jurisdictions worldwide (e.g., Europe, China, Japan, Australia, Canada), (2) non-infringement and invalidity opinions, (3) prior art and patent searching, (4) negotiation of a wide range of common commercial contracts (including confidentiality or nondisclosure agreements, materials transfer agreements, master service agreements, academic licenses, consulting agreements, clinical trial agreements, CRADAs, and many others), (5) due diligence in support of venture fundraising and acquisitions, (6) preparing private companies for IPO, (7) pre-litigation counseling, and (8) patent infringement litigation in both federal District Court and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
